2023 Student Gallery Show

Calling all Rumriver Art Center students! It is time to celebrate your creativity. We are inviting Rumriver Art Center students from the last year to participate in our Student Gallery Show. In order to be eligible to participate, you must have participated in at least one class at Rumriver Art Center between January 1, 2022, and January 31, 2023. The Student Show is open to kids and adults.

We will be hosting a virtual Student Show (via a video slideshow) and an in-person Student Show in the Jan Johansen Gallery. You are invited to participate in one of these two shows. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate you as an artist and showcase your artwork to the community.
Any questions? Please email Angie Renee at angie.renee@rumriverart.com.

In-Person Gallery Show

If you have taken an in-person class or workshop at Rumriver Art Center, you are invited to submit up to two pieces of artwork you would like in the show by Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Depending on how many people enter and as space allows, at least one of your pieces will be accepted into the show (and possibly both).

Artwork can be something you created in a class at the art center or something you created on your own. Note: You may only participate in the in-person show if you have taken an in-person class at Rumriver Art Center. You will be notified by email which of your pieces have been accepted into the show by Friday, April 7, 2023.

For the in-person gallery show, there will be an opening for all artists to attend and bring their family and friends on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 2pm-4pm in the Jan Johansen Gallery.

**This year, in addition to having the opportunity to have your artwork shown in the Jan Johansen Gallery at Rumriver Art Center, the in-person Student Show will travel to the Anoka County Northtown Library to be on display there as well.

The Student Show will be on display from Saturday, May 6, 2023, to Saturday-May 28, 2023, in the Jan Johansen Gallery at Rumriver Art center. The Student Show will then move to Northtown Library until July 24, 2023.

Important Details for the In-Person show.

  • Your artwork must be ready for installation. This means if you are entering two-dimensional work, it must be framed and have a wire on the back for hanging. ONLY wired hanging systems will be accepted for framed and hung works. If you have questions about this, please reach out to Angie at angie.renee@rumriverart.com.
  • Each of your submissions must not be larger than 36 in. x 36 in. for two-dimensional pieces and 36 in. x 36 in. x 36 in. for three-dimensional pieces.
  • Accepted artwork will be labeled with artists name.
  • Rumriver Art Center will take a 30% commission on the sale price of any artwork sold during the show. Please price your pieces accordingly.
  • All accepted artworks must be dropped off at the Rumriver Art Center Gallery on Monday, May 1, 2023, between 8:30am and 5:30pm. If you are unable to drop off your artwork during this time, please email Angie.renee@rumriverart.com to set up an appointment to drop off your artwork.
  • Artwork must be picked up at the Northtown Library on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, from 3pm – 5pm. Artwork that has been unclaimed after 2 weeks will become property of the Rumriver Art Center, either being added to our collection of artworks or sold as part of a fundraiser for the organization. Rumriver Art Center will not ship artwork back to participating artists; all artworks must be picked up in-person.

Virtual Gallery Show

If you have taken a virtual class through Rumriver Art Center, we invite you to participate in our virtual Student Show. You are invited to submit up to 2 pieces for this exhibit by Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Artwork can be something you created in a class at the art center or something you created on your own. You will be notified by email which of your pieces have been accepted into the show by Friday, April 7, 2023.

The virtual gallery show will be presented in the form of a video slideshow. The video slideshow will be put on the Rumriver Art Center website, posted on the art center social media pages, and shared with all the Student Show participants via email.

The purpose of the virtual gallery show is to give our virtual students a chance to share their artwork with other students and the community as many are unable to get to the art center/live too far away and even out of state. Note: You may only participate in the virtual show if you have taken a virtual class through Rumriver Art Center.

**Important: You do not have the option to sell your artwork if participating in the virtual show. Please just put N/A in the price box on the application form.
