Current Gallery Show: Pomp and Circumstance of Death and Psychopomp

The Jan Johansen Gallery of Rumriver Art Center is pleased to present a new art exhibition, Pomp and Circumstance of Death and Psychopomp, featuring new oil paintings and ceramics by Emily Robinson. The show opens Saturday, September 13, 2025, with an opening reception from 2-4 PM, and runs through October 11. On Thursday, September 11th from 6 pm – 7:30 pm Robinson will be the speaker at the Art & Belief Monthly Gathering.
In her show, Robinson explores the human experience of change and mortality through surreal atmospheres. Drawing from mythological guides and cultural psychopomps, the work reflects on personal grief, spiritual transition, and death.
“I invite the viewers to be curious about their own death and to consider who they would want to greet them,” says Robinson. “My goal is to make these uncomfortable conversations about death a little more familiar, a little easier.”
The exhibition will be held at Rumriver Art Center, located at 2665 4th Avenue, Suite #103, Anoka, MN 55303. Admission is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 am–3 pm with select Saturdays.
The exhibition will open September 13th and run until October 11th, 2025.

Next Gallery Show: Call for Entry – Look Closely: Art Made on a Small-Scale

The Jan Johansen Gallery of Rumriver Art Center is excited to announce our October call for entry show: Look Closely: Art Made on a Small-Scale. Rumriver Art Center asked for artists to share their work, in bite-sized pieces. There is no theme to this show. There was only one requirement: it must be small. This exhibition features the work of over 50 artists and a wide array of artistic mediums. The opening reception is on Saturday, October 18th, from 2 pm – 4pm. This event is open to the public and free to attend.

This exhibition is at Rumriver Art Center from October 18th, 2025 through November 8th, 2025.
This exhibition will then move to the Anoka County Library’s Northtown branch and be on display from November 10th, 2025 through January 5th, 2026.

There will be magnifiers available for gallery visitors to use.
