Creative Corner Craft Workshops at the Anoka County Fair

We are excited to partner with the Anoka County Fair to bring you Creative Corner Craft Workshops each day of the fair! The cost is $25 and includes Gate Admission, Craft Supplies, & Instruction. Each class is held in the Open Class Building from 12pm – 2pm. Space is limited so make sure to register early! Register at the Anoka County Fair website.

Tuesday July 22nd: Clay Animal Mug

Ages: 5+ REGISTER HERE
Come and create with clay! What’s your favorite animal to visit at the fair? Let’s make it into a mug! Students will create a slab-built mug and add sculptural elements to represent their favorite fair animal. Students will then paint them with colorful underglazes. Clay projects will be taken back to Rumriver Art Center to be fired and clear glazed and ready for pick in approximately 3 weeks. Pick up will be at Rumriver Art Center. Mugs are food-safe, microwave, and dishwasher safe!

Wednesday July 23rd: Funky Friends with Personality

Ages: Adults REGISTER HERE
Great drawing skills aren’t required to capture the personalities of these fun and quirky figures! Add multiple layers of paints, papers, pastel, glazes, stenciling, and more to an under-painting to bring your colorful characters to life. All levels welcome.

Thursday July 24th: Glass on Glass Mosaic Art

Ages: 9+ REGISTER HERE
Come and create a fun bird nature scene with pieces of glass that are attached to a framed piece of glass. Students will learn how to create a fun design, cut and arrange glass pieces into a beautiful work of art. Your artwork will capture the light when it is hanging in your window at home. This is a fun class for ages 9 to adults.

Friday July 25th: Grand Teton National Park Watercolor Pencil Drawing

Join Rumriver Art Center at the Anoka County Fair and learn how to use watercolor pencils to create a drawing of Grand Teton National Park. Located in Wyoming, the national park is famous for its impressive mountain range, diverse wildlife, and serene alpine lakes. Participants will sketch out their composition using pencils and then trace over their lines with a sharpie. To complete the artwork students will be shown how to use watercolor pencils to add depth, color, and detail to their drawing.

Saturday July 26th: Linocut Printmaking

Ages: 11+ REGISTER HERE
Students will learn the basic techniques for carving out a design in a piece of printing linoleum. Once the block is created, students will have a chance to print it on a variety of papers for interesting effects. This is a fun and experimental class where students can make up to 8 prints that can be pieces of art or turned into greeting cards.

Sunday July 27th: Mosaic Flower on Wood

Ages: 13+ REGISTER HERE
Students will create a beautiful floral wall hanging using bits of glass put onto a wood piece. Each piece of art will be unique according to the colors and design each student chooses. Students will be given a complete demonstration of how to grout your mosaic at home after your glue has dried. This is a great class for you to learn the basics of mosaics and create a playful piece of art!
