Are you an experienced potter who needs a place to create and fire your work? Come to our pottery open studio! Our open studio is for experienced potters looking for a place to throw or hand-build and for registered class participants at RRAC. This is not a beginner class – participants must have previous experience and be able to work independently. We have both hand-built pottery open studio and wheel throwing pottery open studio.
Cost for the 2 hour studio time is $15. Participants must purchase clay from us – no outside clay is permitted. Clay cost is $25 for 25 pounds. Please bring your own pottery tools or you may purchase a set from us. Cost for pottery tools is $15 per set (includes rib, modeling tool, ribbon tool, sponge, needle tool, loop tool, metal scraper, and wire clay cutter). If you want us to fire your pottery at RRAC there is a firing cost (includes bisque and glaze), due at the time you leave your piece(s) to be fired. Firing costs are $5 for a small piece (approximately 4″ x 7″ x 5″), $10 for a medium piece (approximately 8″ x 7″ x 8″) and $15 for a large piece (approximately 13″ x 6″ x 10″). Larger pieces can be fired when discussed with the ceramics director.
We will only fire pottery pieces that were made in their entirety at Rumriver Art Center during open studio time. We cannot fire any pieces made at home, even if they are made with clay purchased from us.
Pottery open studio is for experienced potters ages 14 and older (can be 10 or older if a parent/guardian has registered and is participating as well).
Part of the open studio process is basic studio etiquette. Your open studio time includes not only creating with clay, but also cleaning your work area and clay tools that were used.
A studio guide is available below which explains our ceramics policies for your review.
By working together and maintaining the studio environment we can create a clay community for all to thrive!
