Hi there, I’m Mak! I have a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and a Masters in Education. I discovered how beautiful the process of creating was in undergrad and was determined to spread art practices and joy through teaching. “An artist is not a special kind of person; rather, each person is a special kind of artist.” This quote by Ananda Coomaraswamy has rooted my teaching and creating philosophy in believing that each human has the ability to hone their own creativity in a multitude of ways. My job is to guide students in finding their own way of creating by embracing mistakes, pushing the importance of the process rather than the final product, and giving students agency and voice. I mostly practice in 3D mediums such as sculpture or ceramics, but thoroughly enjoy creating 2D mixed media artwork using varieties of drawing utensils, paints, and found objects.
