Drawing Class Information
Rum River Art Center offers drawing classes for elementary school-aged children. Rum River Art Center provides all the supplies. Each class a student brings
home a finished drawing. Each drawing class offers new
subject matter for your child. These classes are on a
daily basis, providing children the opportunity to
learn and develop new drawing skills during the summer!
Our students also learn about different artists
and how and why they constructed their work.

In order to make a drawing of an object or thing, we
teach our students that they need to see its individual
sections (how it is constructed). To draw, our students
learn to examine and isolate each part back into a
whole. The drawing class is composed of three essential components of visual art:

Form (shape)
Size (mass, scale)
Placement (relationships)

Using a step-by-step method (the simple to the
complex) the student understands what is needed in
order to draw successfully. The techniques taught to the student, allows them to assist themselves to draw.

Acrylic Painting and Watercolor Classes
Painting and watercolor classes will be begin March 3rd and 4th.

  • Painting class will cost is $50 plus $30 in materials and with a six student maximum.
  • Students bring home 2 completed paintings
  • Watercolor class will also cost $50 plus $10 in materials with a maximum class size of eight students.
  • Students bring home 6 completed watercolors.

Art Journal Class

The art journal class combines drawing and other mediums.

Each student receives a art journal and has weekly assignments. The goal is to mix art with a little bit of writing.

Hand-Built Pottery and Clay Sculpture Class

The hand-built pottery and sculpture classes will be taught by Franny Hyde. The classes will take students through process of working with clay, using under glazes, glaze, and firing of their work. Each student will complete  two to three items over the six week session.

Franny Hyde is a local ceramic artist, specializing in sculpting animals and people. She is a former elementary art teacher, marketing executive, and graduate of St. Olaf College.
